This chapter focuses on events following Oxford's death in July 1604. Before Oxford was buried, steps were taken to secure to Henry de Vere, 18th Earl of Oxford, the hard–won rights to Waltham Forest and Havering Park. Dowager Countess Elizabeth also decided to take the wardship of Henry de Vere herself. The chapter also describes the marriage of Lady Susan Vere to Sir Philip Herbert on 27 December, six months and three days after her father's death.
