This chapter describes events that took place between May 1991 and January 1992. These include the Gibraltar Government's issuance of a gold coin on 27 May with a face value of £50 or 70 ecus, for circulation; the postponement of an EC agreement due to disagreement between Britain and Spain over the sovereignty issue; the London visit of José María Aznar, leader of Spain's right–wing Partido Popular; the formation of a new political party in Gibraltar, the Gibraltar National Party; and Joe Bossano's election victory, with an overwhelming 75.3% of the vote.
