This chapter examines the impact of the Falklands/Malvinar War on the Gibraltar issue. The main concern was whether it would interfere with the timetable for the opening of the frontier gates and the initiation of negotiations in the Portuguese town of Sintra over the future of the Rock. On 8 April 1982, a joint communique was issued simultaneously in Madrid and London to the effect that the talks and the opening of the frontier would be postponed until 25 June. The chapter also reviews the media coverage of the crisis and the associations made between the two colonial problems.
