This chapter discusses the concept of travel histories in which the travel writer explores a place's complex history of movement and cultural mobility and examines how the innovative travel writer connects with history and places his or her own journey in its context. It analyzes Orhan Pamuk's Istanbul and Ziauddin Sardar's Consumption of Kuala Lumpur. It discusses the plot of these travel texts and argues that both texts push the limits of borders and boundaries and challenge the reader to negotiate a textuality of co-presence, interaction and permeability.
