This chapter examines the relations between science fiction (SF), utopia, and fantasy. Specifically, it discusses the North American and European arguments for SF and utopia; SF and fantasy, and utopianism in popular science fiction. It is argued that SF, utopia and fantasy occupy positions within the contemporary global SF field and therefore contribute to the SF selective tradition.
