This chapter examines the core of the patriotic narrative of the National War Aims Committee (NWAC) propaganda, which is the emphasis on duty rooted in an extensively developed language of sacrifice. It discusses a dualistic evocation of civilian duty that both demanded Britons to accept concomitant obligations to defend civilisational values and celebrated evidence of their ready acceptance of such obligations. This chapter also considers how the NWAC propaganda sought to override sectional distinctions such as class or political affiliation by highlighting communal ties.
