This chapter examines Roland Barthes' lectures at the Collège de France called Comment vivre ensemble and Le Neutre. It analyzes Barthes' treatment and organisation of his material and discusses how his ‘fantasmes’ function as a teaching device. It describes how his rejection of the narratives of Marxism and psychoanalysis sometimes overlaps to a certain extent with the preoccupations of other contemporary theorists.
