This chapter reprints a selection of William Smellie's case notes from London. These cases are taken from A Collection of Cases and Observations in Midwifery. By William Smellie, MD, To Illustrate His former Treatise, or First Volume, on that Subject (first edition 1754) (Volume II) and A Collection of Preternatural Cases and Observations in Midwifery. By William Smellie, MD, Completing the Design of Illustrating his First Volume on that Subject (first edition 1764) (Volume III). The selection includes cases relating to child delivery ranging from natural labour to haemorrhage, tedious labour, abortion, death of infant, and flooding from placenta praevia.
