Some philosophers have believed that there are both good and evil gods. Then there are some who entertain more favourable views of the gods, and have bestowed such honours and praises upon them as to presume that not one of them is evil. But those who claim that some gods are good and others evil have included the demons as well under the heading of gods, though less often they have also termed the gods as demons. Indeed, they even admit that Jupiter himself, who they claim is king and chief over the rest, was called a demon by Homer....
