This chapter describes Oxford's return journey to England. It presents correspondence from Oxford as well as individuals he met while travelling abroad. Passing through Milan on his way home Oxford struck out for Paris via Lyon and the military encampments of one or another French faction. Oxford apparently left Paris on 10 April 1576. Having made his way safely to Calais, as he crossed the Channel Oxford's ship was taken by pirates. The apparent date of Oxford's arrival at Dover was 20 April.
