This chapter describes the proposed marriage between Elizabeth Vere and William Stanley, younger brother, Ferdinando Stanley, 5th Earl of Derby. Ferdinando's death on 16 April 1594 gave William the potential to deprive Alice, Dowager Countess, of the Derby inheritance. The chapter also details the suit filed by Oxford against Roger Harlackenden in May.
