A Husband for Lady Bridget
A Husband for Lady Bridget
This chapter describes the potential husband for Oxford's second daughter, Lady Bridget. The prospective bridegroom was Francis Norris, the grandson of Baron Henry, Lord Norris (or Norreys) of Rycote. Some time in May or June 1599, Bridget Vere, aged fifteen, married Francis Norris, who would turn twenty on 6 July. The chapter also details the suit filed by Judith Ruswell on 28 April for some £500 in reference to her husband's service to Oxford twenty years previously as ‘Master of his Wardropp’. Like Julian Penn and so many others, Judith Ruswell claimed that Oxford had failed to pay his debt.
