This chapter discusses the creation of the Londonderry Development Commission for the implementation of the urban redevelopment plan for the city. It explains that the with passage of the New Town Legislation, which allows an existing town to be designated for expansion, the commission was able to remove political roadblocks to housing development and to promote industrial development. It highlights the contributions of Stephen McGonagle on the Development Commission and David White in the implementation of the Derry plan.
