Manners, Mores and Musicality: An Interview with Willy Russell
Manners, Mores and Musicality: An Interview with Willy Russell
This chapter presents an interview with playwright Willy Russell, conducted at Liverpool Hope University in May 2006. Russell wrote some of the most successful and much-performed stage plays of recent decades, including Stags and Hens (1978), Educating Rita (1980), and Shirley Valentine (1986). The interview covers topics such as his views about being called a ‘Liverpool playwright’; the people he admires most; and the artistic significance of the bar and restaurant beneath the Everyman Theatre, the Everyman Bistro.
