This chapter examines Pierre Bourdieu's contribution to the architectural field. It discusses how Bourdieu positions architecture as a field of cultural production, in which architects struggle over symbolic and material conflicts. It also assesses the relationship between culture and social power relations from a ‘structuralist constructivist’ or ‘constructivist structuralist’ position. The chapter focuses on the role of architecture in the consolidation and legitimation of state power.
