This chapter investigates Edward Stratemeyer. The Spanish-American War which started in April 1898 and ended in December 1898 is also assessed. The USA and Spain became two ‘great powers’, realising each other as honourable opponents. Sylvester Scovel was a writer for the New York Herald. Scovel was involved in the first US military action on Cuba. Stratemeyer was an important figure of the early twentieth century. He was also a remarkable writer and publicist. He industrialised the production of adolescent fiction. With Spain so quickly defeated, his imagination moved swiftly to the global stage. He never recieved due credit for his powers of prophecy.
