(p.55) Chapter 3 The Poetics of Consilience: Edward O. Wilson and A. R. Ammons
Science in Modern Poetry

John Barnie

Liverpool University Press

This chapter examines the work of Edward O. Wilson in attempting to unify the knowledge of natural and social sciences using biology as a starting point. In Wilson's Consilience, he proposes a unified theory of knowledge, which is nowhere more evident than in A.R. Ammons' book-length poem, Garbage, where he reflects on the extent to which poetry can represent the immensity of the natural world.
