This chapter is a guide to the maritime historiography of Slovenia. A distrinction is drawn between the Italian historians, who recorded Slovenian history before the Second World War, and who largely opted for political rather than maritime concerns, and the Slovenian historians who emerged post-war. Post-war research sought to prove the substantial economic impact that maritime activity caused for Slovenia.
