This final chapter concludes the findings of the journal by claiming the crisis of the 1970s and 1980s fundamentally altered the shipping market. It reiterates the causes and effects of the crisis and the reasons for the drastic impact felt by Norwegian shipowners. It asserts that the shipping industry is highly cyclical, but the low point of the cycle during the ‘70s and ‘80s was particularly harsh and industry-altering. The modern-day industry only overcame the lingering effects of the crisis, including the prevalent problem of oversupply, in 2004-2005.
