Politics and Sociability: the Anarchist Clubs
Politics and Sociability: the Anarchist Clubs
This chapter focuses on the social life of Italian anarchists in London as well as the political and cultural activities that they organised in their clubs, including meetings, lectures, leisure and other social events. It begins with an overview of sociability and its role in the birth of socialism in Italy before turning to a discussion of how political refugees in London spent their social life. It also considers how the clubs were managed and looks at the benefits of clubs to anarchists and concludes by emphasising the role played by the clubs in the dissemination of anarchist ideas and forms of organisation.
